Does God care if you brush your teeth?
Yes, He wants us to be healthy. A part of being healthy is brushing your teeth.
Will God be angry if you don’t brush your teeth?
Not really, but He would like you to be healthy, so, He would prefer you to do so.
3 John 2 Dear friend, I pray that you are prospering in every way and are in good health, just as your whole life is going well.
Ephesians 5:9 For no one ever hates his own flesh but provides and cares for it, just as Christ does for the church, 30 since we are members of his body.
Jesus loved us before we could ever love Him.
1 John 4:19 We love because He first loved us.
John 15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you.
Before we even knew Him or had the capacity to love Him back, He loved us.
Ephesians 1:4-6 For He chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in love before Him. 5 He predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ for himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace that he lavished on us in the Beloved One.
When we accepted Jesus as our savior, He loved us just as He loved us before we accepted him. He did not love us more because we loved him back. His love is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Romans 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!”
The spirit moves us to love Him, and this changed us. God did not change.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; The old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
Psalm 102:27 But you are the same, and your years will never end.
The Holy Spirit moves us to love him, to spend more time with Him. We want to get to know Him. We want to do things for Him. We are not loved for our actions, but because we love Him, we want to do what is pleasing in his sight.
1 John 3:21-22 Dear friends, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive whatever we ask from him because we keep his commands and do what is pleasing in his sight.
Romans 17:18 For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is in my flesh. For the desire to do what is good is with me, but there is no ability to do it.
Romans 6:17 But thank God that, although you used to be slaves of sin, you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching to which you were handed over, 18 and having been set free from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness.
Psalm 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
I go to church to learn more about him and to be around other believers.
Hebrews 10:25 And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, 25 not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.
Psalm 84:10 Better a day in your courts than a thousand anywhere else. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God than live in the tents of wicked people.
God created a community for our advantage. There is a great inheritance in the saints. So much richness to experience in spending time with other believers. An inheritance we have the privilege of sharing with Jesus.
Ephesians 1:18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength.
I pray to spend time with Him. He loves us and wants to spend time with us. Because I now know Him, I want to spend time with Him.
Psalm 62:1 For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation
Psalm 27:8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.” (NLT)
We spend time reading His word. There is knowledge to be gained in His word. The more time we spend in His word, the better our lives will be on this earth.
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
I worship because He is worthy. He has done so many things for us and He is worthy of praise.
Psalm 115:1 Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory because of your faithful love, because of your truth.
Psalm 150:1-2 Hallelujah! Praise God in his sanctuary. Praise him in his mighty expanse.
2 Praise him for his powerful acts; praise him for his abundant greatness.
Does God care if I go to church?
Yes, he created the body of Christ to help build us up into His kingdom. He know how beneficial it is for us to be around other believers.
Will God be angry if we don’t go to church?
No, He will not turn his back and be angry at you if you don’t go to church.
Romans 8:35 Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
It may hurt his heart to see that you don’t take advantage of every benefit He has for you. His word tells us to not neglect the gathering of believers.
John 15:14 You are my friends, if you do what I command you.
Does God care if I spend time with Him or read His word?
Yes, we are created in His image and He loves to spend time with us.
James 4:8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Be clean in the way that you live. Stop doing wrong things. Make your minds clean. You cannot love sin and love God at the same time (EASY)
John 8:31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, "if you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples," (ESV)
But will he stop loving me if I don’t? No. Emphatically NO. He is so merciful and full of grace. There is nothing we can do that would make him stop loving us.
Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God has placed blessings on this earth for our benefit. The Holy Spirit, the Church, the bible, A voice to call out to him.
1 Corinthians 4:4-6 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.
If we decide to ignore the blessing He gives for our benefit, He will not stop loving us.
Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us,5 made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!
We should choose to utilize/partake in these blessing given to us because He asks us to.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (ESV)
He knows what the immeasurable advantage of doing these things will benefit us.
Brushing our teeth is one of many things we can do to stay healthy. It is one example of something we can do to keep our bodies healthy.
Going to church. Reading your bible. Spending time talking to him are examples of things we can do in our life that keeps our spirit, our walk with Him healthy.
God doesn’t stop loving you because you don’t do these things. His love began when you were in your mother’s womb before you could do anything that could please him.
As humans, we learn the concept of unconditional love. No matter what they do, (kids, pets) whether it is good or bad, you will continue to love them.
Jeremiah 3:12 …I will not look on you with anger, for I am unfailing in my love.
But are you pleased with them when they do what is good, when they voluntarily participate in habits that benefit them? Of course!! Isn’t it the same with Jesus?
1 Chronicles 29:17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and that you are pleased with what is right. I have willingly given all these things with an upright heart, and now I have seen your people who are present here giving joyfully and willingly to you.
If we understand God wants to bless us and offers opportunities for health, prosperity, joy and peace and we utilize the resources he gives us every day. He will be pleased with us.
Colossians 1:10 so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, so that you may have great endurance and patience, joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light.
We are pleased when our children brush their teeth because it is good for them.
God is pleased with his children when we address our spiritual health with church, reading our bible, and prayer.
He will never stop loving us. That is his promise.
John 3: 16 For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.
So let’s keep blessing him with our time and attention to the things he wants us to focus on. Prayer, reading His word, attending church.
Let's bless HIm with all that we have but is so much smaller than what He gives us.
Psalm 103:1-5 My soul, bless the Lord, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 My soul, bless the Lord, and do not forget all his benefits. 3 He forgives all your iniquity; he heals all your diseases. 4 He redeems your life from the Pit; he crowns you with faithful love and compassion. 5 He satisfies you with good things; your youth is renewed like the eagle.
