Let's Get One Thing Straight

Let’s get one thing straight, I can do nothing on my own.

I can not achieve anything that is of value without God. I can not achieve anything that is of no value without God.

Don’t think for one minute anyone can do anything without God.

Let’s for a moment talk about the world and all its inhabitants.  God made us. He made this earth. He made this universe.

John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.

You are fooling yourself if you say there is no God.

Psalm 14:1 The fool says in his heart, “There’s no God.” They are corrupt; they do vile deeds. There is no one who does good.

Psalm 10: 4 In all his scheming, the wicked person arrogantly thinks,“There’s no accountability, since there’s no God.”

Romans 1:20 Ever since God made the world, He has been showing people clearly about Himself. We cannot see God. But the things that He has made show us clearly what He is like. We can understand His great power that continues for ever. We can know that He is the true God. So there is no reason for anyone to say, ‘We could not know about God.’(EASY)

Whether you have decided to serve God, or serve yourself, you can do nothing without Him.

1 Corinthians 8:6 Yet for us there is one God, the Father. All things are from Him and We exist for Him And there is one Lord Jesus Christ All things are through Him and we exist through Him

God the Father - All things are from Him and we exist for Him.

Lord Jesus Christ- All things are through Him.  and we exist through HIM.

We can walk around pretending we have so much talent and we are so smart and we can do anything we put our minds to BUT, it is still God who allows you to exist. He is the creator. You would not be here on this earth if he decided it not to be so.  He decided who your parents will be.  He decided your gender, race and the color of your eyes.  He decided where, and when you will be born. He knows and allows where you are right now.

Romans 11:36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things

What is, “all things?” ABSOLUTELY ALL THINGS.

Oh, you may be the fastest runner or have all the money in the world or be the best singer, songwriter, musician or have the highest I.Q.  You still cannot do anything without God. He created you to run, He allowed you to have that money, that voice, that talent and that intellect.

John 6:63 The Spirit alone gives eternal life.  Human effort accomplishes nothing.  And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

So whether you acknowledge God or not, He is:

  • Omnipotent: All-powerful (total power over all creation).
  • Omniscient: All-knowing (perfect knowledge of past, present, and future).
  • Omnipresent: Everywhere present (present in all places at all times).

Each of us, whether we have chosen to follow Jesus or we are in this world living like the devil, we are remarkably wonderously made. Each of us has gifts that are specific to ourselves.  No one can sing like Lauren Diegel.  Her voice is distinct and given to her by God.  Elon Musk has managed to become the richest man on the earth. Whether you like Him or not, whether he has submitted his life to Christ or not, God gave him the intellect and the opportunities that allowed Him to amass a fortune.  God made Elon Musk too.  We didn’t become remarkably and wonderously made after we accepted Christ as our Savior.

Everyone, all people, good and bad were made by God.  The sun shines and rain falls on the righteous and unrighteous.

Matthew 5:45 …For he causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Every knee will bow, every tongue will confess, whether you accept it or not.

Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will give praise to God.

Where it gets really good is when we choose to follow Jesus.  He called us and we responded with a resounding yes! Or we responded with tears or responded with, “I will try anything at this point.”  But we did respond to His call!

He enables us to use the inherent gifts he placed in us from the beginning to bring Him glory and honor.  But make no mistake, we can do nothing without Him. Human effort accomplishes nothing.  That goes for the redeemed and for the lost people needing a Savior.

For me, it takes a little heat off me because in my own strength, with just my inherent talents, I get tired. I can go for a while and do well, but eventually I get tired, burned out.  How much more could I do if I did things through the spirit, in his strength?  According to the scripture, I can do all things through Him.

Philippians 4:13 I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.

I cannot make myself a living sacrifice on my own accord.

But through Jesus, if I’m willing to surrender, he makes me a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to Him.

Romans 12:1 Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship

It really is incredible when you think about it…

I have nothing

John 15:5  I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in Him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me.

He gives me something

James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

I give it back to Him

1 Chronicles 29:14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your own hand.

He blesses it

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ.

He makes it a blessing for others

1 Peter 3:9 …giving a blessing, since you were called for this, so that you may inherit a blessing.

In Him, I can live and move and have my being.  Isn’t that so much better then doing it in my own strength?

Acts 17:28  For in Him we live and move and have our being…

So, let us just rest in Jesus.  He gives you and I rest.  We can be confident of this very thing, that He who has done a good thing in you and I, He will complete that good thing until He comes back.

Philippians 1:6 I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
