My Identity in Christ

Merriam-Webster defines identity as: The distinguishing character or personality of an individual 

Buy yourself a pretty journal that makes you smile.  They are super cheap at Marshalls, Home Goods or Ross.  Find a pen you love to write with. 

Write what is in your heart when you read the scripture.  Personalize it.   Write your thoughts, feelings and understanding of the scripture.  Find other scriptures that compliment the theme of the scripture. Take each Identity and really think about it.  Take a day or two to meditate on each title and the scriptures.

I AM LOVED

 John 3: 16

For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.  God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

John 15:9

I have loved you even as the Father has loved me.  Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love.  Just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.

1 John 4: 10

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loves us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

1 John 4:11

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 John 4:19

 We love because he first loved us.

 I AM HEARD AND I AM SAVED

Romans 10:9

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

I AM CLEAN, FREE AND LOYAL

Psalm 51:7

Purify me from my sins and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.  Oh give me back my joy again; you have broken me- now let me rejoice.  Don’t keep looking at my sins.  Remove the stain of guilt.  Create in me a clean heart, O God, Renew a loyal spirit within me.  Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take the Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.

2 Corinthians 3: 17-18

For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.  So all of us who have had the veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord.  And the Lord-who is the Spirit- makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

1 Chronicles 29: 18

Lord, the God of our Fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you.

I AM A NEW PERSON RESCUED AND BELONGING

Galatians 3: 13

But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing.

2 Corinthians 5:17

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person.  The old life is gone; a new life has begun.

Psalm 18:19

He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.

Romans 7:4

So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God.

Romans 14:8

If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord.  So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

I AM CHRIST-LIKE, GODLY SET APART AND APPOINTED

Jeremiah 1: 5

I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.  Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.

 Psalm 4: 3

You can be sure of this:  The Lord set apart the godly for himself.  The Lord will answer when I call to him.

 Psalm 16:2

You are my Lord, apart from you I have no good thing.

2 Peter 1:3

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

I HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST

1 Corinthians 2:15-16

Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others..  For, Who can know the Lord’s thoughts?  Who knows enough to teach him?  But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.

Romans 8:5-6

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with he Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.  The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Ephesians 4:22-24

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude  of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God did not give us a spirit of fear.  He gave us a spirit of power and of love and of a good mind.

I AM HUMBLE AND GENTLE OF HEART

 Matthew 11:29

Then Jesus Said Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, Let me teach you because I am humble and gentle at heart and you will find rest for your souls.

Ephesians 4:2

 Always be humble and gentle.  Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.

James 4:10

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.

2 Chronicles 7: 14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

I AM RIGHTEOUS, QUALIFIED AND SPIRIT FILLED

Romans 5: 19b

But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.

Galatians 3: 11

So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law.  For the Scriptures say “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

2 Corinthians 3: 5

It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own.  Our qualification comes from God.

1 Corinthians 2:12

And we have received God’s Spirit ( not the world’s spirit) so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.

Ephesians 5: 18

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead be filled with the Holy Spirit.

I AM THE BRANCH AND PRODUCE GODLY FRUIT

 John 15:5

I am the vine , you are the branches.  Those who remain in me and I in them will produce much fruit.  Apart from me, you can do nothing.

 Colossians 1:10

Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit.  All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.

Galatians 5:16-18; 22-23

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.  For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.  They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.
